Post 153

I've continued to produce a series of windscreen drawing towards my final project installation. This particular one was drafted directly from a sketchbook with little changes made to the overall composition.
The image depicts modern street furniture combined with street lighting that harks back to a Victorian era. Again, I've decided to keep the use of colour to a minimum - bar a small arrow which I've used hatching.
I'm intrigued by the abundance of street signs as signifiers to non-places. Fake, Victorian street lamps using a combination of drawing equipment...

My blog activity has been put on hold a bit of late, where I've found myself considering some of the practical work for my final show installation. I intend to submit the following for my final project:

1. Non-places report.

2. Installation consisting of hand made road bollards, drawings on rear view mirrors, 8 drawings of non-places contained within a windsreen printed (collographed border). Recordings of place and non place.

3. Installation written proposal including drawings.

4. This blog (posting from june 2008 onwards).

5. Journal: compilation of diary notes, blog print outs, editorial attempts, sketches and evidence of process. This will be A4 size and bound together with rings with hardboard cover front and back.

6. Selection of sketchbooks and possibly my illustration portfolio (although this is still something of a work in progress.
The image posted is a drawing produced in Little Chef restaurant at Barnetby Top services in North Lincs. I've attempted to capture the essence of this place using the mitsubishi pen in conjunction with the Faber Castell Pitt. repetition of line, shape whilst retaining the urgency of the 'reporter'.

I've looked again at the tablet image and have scanned a a blister pack. The background has been made up with collage elements and the digitally altered in photoshop.
I've used the multiply tool and have dragged the marks out of 10 across. These were originally drawn with the rotring art pen.

I think this is still a 1st draft image. I need to make another image the same dimensions as the article (public rating their doctors).
I've used aquerelle pencils for the shaded/semi painted areas. I've found that the rotring pen isn't waterproof, thus interfering with the line. I think I'm going to try and stick with this image until I come to a satisfactory conclusion, even if it is the only editorial work I produce until the end of my study period!

This is a rough for an editorial in Guardian about the government plans to enable the public to grade the service provided by GP's. It also alludes to the dance marathons in the US...hence dancing steths.

I've started a process of creating images via road signs as non-place signifiers. This one is choice between health food or junk.

Here is the final copy of my poster for a staff teams' 'Core Values'. The poster is a culmination of a series of consultation events with staff that work with adults with learning disabilities.

The image will be enlarged to A1 size and be placed in key points throughout the service.
